He was early. He checked his watch yet again and sat down. Out of habit, he centred the table mat and aligned the glasses. She was probably stuck in traffic. But then, he was early. Something he'd never been when they'd lived together. Birthday parties, school plays, annual days, sports days – he'd been late to them all. She'd been too young to realise that divorce was inevitable. Her mother would tire of the excuses and fights and move out. And his importance in his daughter's life would grow fainter, like footprints on the beach. He checked his watch again and hoped his daughter was on the way. He'd faded out of her life enough. #footprints #beach #waves #memory #divorce #love #father #daughter
